Quick Guide: Airport Rail Link From Suvarnabhumi Airport
We seldom fly via Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, as Don Mueang International Airport is closer to where we stay.

When we do fly via Suvarnabhumi Airport, we usually opt for the Airport Rail Link (ARL), City Line. There used to be Express Line and City Line. As of September 2014, all express services were suspended. But, you ain’t missed out anything. Express Line only cut down the journey from Suvarnabhumi Airport to City Air Terminal Makkasan by 7 minutes, and Express’s fare is expensive at flat rate of 150 baht!

Whereas, it only costs 35 baht, a 22 minutes City Line ride from Suvarnabhumi Airport to get to City Air Terminal, also known as Makkasan station. From ARL Makkasan station, it requires a bit of walk to the interchange station with MRT Phetchaburi. At least these days, there is a covered pedestrian walkway from ARL Makkasan station to MRT Phetchaburi.
To get to ARL Phaya Thai station, it will take additional 4 minutes of journey (total 26 minutes), 45 baht fare. This is the terminus station, and is also the interchange station for BTS Phaya Thai station.
The trains are also frequent: Mon – Fri Headway 12 – 15 minutes. Sat – Sun and Public Holiday Headway 15 minutes.

What I like best is there is no need to ‘negotiate’ with taxi drivers to turn on the meter, or ‘settle on a fare’.
