Plant Haven at Chatuchak Plant Market: A Budding Gardener’s Paradise
I’ve always admired gardeners from afar, but truth be told, my thumbs were anything but green. Lately, with a bit more time on my hands, I’ve decided to dive into the world of plants. This post is an update from my 2017 visit, which you can read about [here], where I was merely an observer. Now, I’m officially part of the gardening community, albeit a beginner still learning (and occasionally failing, especially with edibles!). Gardening, I’ve discovered, is less art and more science, with very tangible outcomes. Thankfully, plant markets are brimming with generous, knowledgeable folks eager to share their insights if you’re willing to ask.

While I usually frequent the smaller Or Tor Kor plant market, I recently ventured to the expansive Chatuchak Plant Market – a place I hadn’t visited in years. My trip coincided with a weekday public holiday, and I was stunned by the sheer number of stalls; it felt significantly larger than my last visit.
A Green Oasis: What You’ll Discover

The prices at Chatuchak were incredibly reasonable, with some small plants going for as little as 10 baht! Even so, I overheard plenty of customers skillfully haggling. Ironically, I also caught two sellers commiserating about their earnings being “just enough to cover petrol!” Unlike Or Tor Kor, I found the vendors here to be less pushy, which made for a much more relaxed Browse experience. Coincidentally, I was chatting with a friend about her mossarium project back home, and comparing the prices she paid to what I saw at Chatuchak, it’s clear we have a fantastic deal here in Thailand. There’s really no need to bargain unless an item genuinely feels overpriced or goes way over your budget.

Every stall was tempting, but I ultimately settled on two small plants, each 25 baht: a charming dwarf snake plant and a delicate fern. I made a point to support R-koko, a particular shop that thoughtfully provided English names for their plants. This was a game-changer for me, as I finally learned the names of some plants we’d previously bought for our balcony garden from Or Tor Kor! While most stalls at Chatuchak are temporary setups, R-koko seems to be a permanent fixture. A quick search for “R-koko” brought up their address at Mixt Chatuchak, likely because the Mixt building is right behind their physical stall, despite different addresses on their Facebook and Instagram.

Chatuchak Plant Market truly offers everything plant-related: from diverse pots and saucers to fertilizers. You’ll even find fresh fruits like lime, kaffir lime, mango, banana and even durian!. Plants come in all sizes – big, small, and even mature trees! For terrarium enthusiasts, there’s an abundance of moss and decorative items. And thankfully, if you need a break from the greenery, there are also stalls selling clothes, souvenirs, accessories, and food, though plants are undeniably the main attraction.
The plant stalls are spread throughout the market, so I simply followed a large loop, starting and ending at MRT Kamphaeng Phet station, Exit 2. From what I’ve gathered, the market truly comes alive for plant sales starting Tuesday evening and runs through Thursday. This weekday schedule is ideal for avoiding the weekend crowds of the main Chatuchak Market and allows this massive market to operate throughout the week.
It’s clear that Chatuchak Plant Market is a fantastic resource for both seasoned gardeners and budding enthusiasts alike. Have you visited? What green treasures did you find? Share your experiences in the comments below!
