Parking Smart at Marché Thonglor: My Guide to Saving Baht
Bangkok’s bustling streets often come with a hidden cost: parking. It’s a lesson I learned the hard way recently, and one I thought was worth sharing for anyone navigating the city by car. Instead of a “woe,” let’s turn it into a “know-how.”

My niece had a massage appointment in Thonglor, and with no time to spare, I found myself in a frantic search for a nearby parking spot. Spotting the prominent parking sign at Marché Thonglor, I instinctively pulled in, assuming it would be a convenient, if not inexpensive, wait. I knew some malls could be pricey, but the true sting of Bangkok’s parking fees hadn’t hit me personally… until then. My husband, who’s used to Malaysia’s generally higher parking rates, is always shocked by the fees there (and I grit my teeth every time I pay!), but Bangkok often seems relatively cheaper, especially with the common practice of parking fee waivers for purchases.
After a little over an hour, I approached the counter, which I mistakenly thought was for payment. The attendant asked if I had a receipt. I proudly declared my Boost Juice, around 160 baht, even though I didn’t have the physical receipt with me. “Sorry,” came the reply, “you need at least a 200 baht receipt for the waiver.” My brain, already frazzled by the rush, hadn’t even considered checking parking policies beforehand. Then, she walked me to the parking payment machine. 100 baht flashed on the screen. Blimey! For just over an hour?
A few weeks later, destiny called me back to Thonglor, and this time, I was prepared. Upon arrival, I did my homework by scrutinizing the fee details. Here’s what I learned about parking at Marché Thonglor, so you don’t have to learn the hard way:
Navigating Marché Thonglor’s Parking Fees:

- No Purchase:
- First hour: FREE
- Subsequent hours: 100 baht per hour
- With a Purchase of 200 Baht or More (receipts can be combined!):
- First two hours: FREE
- Subsequent hours: 50 baht per hour
- With a Purchase of 500 Baht or More (receipts can be combined!):
- First four hours: FREE
- Subsequent hours: 50 baht per hour

How it works: When you enter, simply wave your hand at the contactless scanner to get your parking ticket. Before you exit, you’ll need to validate your ticket at one of the designated machines or at the parking redemption counter if you have a qualifying purchase. In my recent visit, a single Tops Market receipt totaling over 200 baht easily granted me free parking for my 1.5-hour stay – a much better outcome! This clever parking fee waiver scheme is something my husband has long practiced, and I’ve finally caught on since I’ve started driving more often in Bangkok recently. It definitely makes a lot of sense and benefits customers who are patronizing the establishments.

Important Notes for Marché Thonglor Parking: After paying any applicable service fee or receiving a waiver, vehicles must be exited within 30 minutes. This 30-minute grace period after payment offers a lot more leeway compared to parking exits in Malaysia, adding another small “hack” for maximizing your time. While initially I thought parking was limited based on the two floors I saw near the Burger King entrance (Zone C), I’ve since learned that Marché Thonglor is a multi-use project including offices, condos, and the community mall (where I visited), and it does have ample parking across different zones. So, while the immediate area I used might have felt compact, there’s likely plenty of space elsewhere. Also, keep in mind that overnight parking is not permitted here.
This experience was a vivid reminder that while convenience is key, a little pre-planning (or a quick online search!) can save you a fair bit of money in Bangkok’s ever-evolving urban landscape. The Thonglor stretch of Sukhumvit 55 Road can indeed have tricky parking, which might contribute to the pricing structure – perhaps aimed at encouraging patrons to utilize the waiver system and reserve spots for actual customers.
