Kodawari Menya, An Unexpected Discovery At Mont Kiara

Kodawari Menya Udon & Tempura is an unassuming Japanese udon and curry place, at 1 Mont Kiara Mall. There were many Japanese diners, since Mont Kiara is literally full of Japanese expatriates.

Kodawari Menya originates from the Sanuki province Kagawa, Japan, a place most famous for the making of udon. I looked it up, and hell ya, Kagawa Prefecture is really well-known for udon. Kodawari Menya’s udon & dashi (soup) are fully imported from Kagawa, Japan!

Udon station

Tempura station
The place is screaming udon and tempura. The udon looks sooo fresh and tempting!

A simple vegetable curry rice
I chose Japanese vegetable curry rice (RM 8.90). I am not a big fan of Japanese curry (too mild for my liking), and I usually avoid this dish.  Slurrrpp … surprise, surprise, I enjoyed my curry rice! Oishi!

Sis’ kimuchi udon

Nieces’ zaru udon
My sis and nieces had udons and tempura, and they were happy with their food.

Kodawari adopts self-serving approach, and it reminds me of a school canteen. Queue up, order, pay, add toppings and clear your own tray.

This is what their notice says: self-serving experience just like in Japan!

Not Your Typical Tourist

A passionate advocate for independent and solo travel, I traded life in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for the vibrant streets of Bangkok, Thailand. This shift is all thanks to a "chance encounter" in 2009 that led to marriage with my Thai husband. I currently split my time between Bangkok (my main base) and Kuala Lumpur for family—documenting the unique blend of a Malaysian life lived abroad.
