Squid Game 3 Jumps into Bangkok: A Surprising Adventure

I was genuinely surprised when my husband suggested we check out the Squid Game 3 event near the Giant Swing! His motivation wasn’t to participate, but to capture some cool photos before it ended (July 6th). So, off we went, joining the lively atmosphere.

The free event featured the imposing 12-meter-tall Younghee and Cheol-su dolls – iconic characters from Squid Game. While I haven’t actually watched the series myself (full disclosure!), I recognized them instantly. For me, attending was also about seeing Netflix’s brilliant, talk-of-the-town marketing in action. Experiencing such a well-executed on-ground event was a real treat!

Even my niece, initially unenthusiastic, found her excitement. She surprisingly joined the “Gong-gi” (or “five stone”) game, perhaps because she owns her own set of these traditional stones! That simple game captivated her more than the giant jumping rope. Around the event, vendors were selling Squid Game merchandise, from the famous masks to the Pink Guard costumes, adding to the immersive experience.

Overall, the atmosphere was fantastic, buzzing with excited Squid Game fans. Kudos, Netflix, for another brilliant marketing stunt!

Not Your Typical Tourist

Travel opens up a whole new world, which is cliche but true. I am a strong advocate for independent and solo travel. I was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia but now live in Bangkok, Thailand, resulted from a chance encounter in 2009 with my why-are-you-Thai bf. I am now split between two countries. One country for my bf, another for the family, for the occasional weekend together.
