Thai Niyom: A Michelin Journey Across Thailand (And My Husband’s “Over-Ordering” Habit)

Thai Niyom (ไทยนิยม) is more than just a restaurant; it’s a long-standing favorite of mine. Holding a Michelin Bib Gourmand status consistently from 2019 to 2025, it used to be one of my regular lunch haunts when I worked in the Phloenchit area.
Even now, it remains a top choice—largely thanks to my husband. He has a passion for discovering regional specialties that span from the mountainous North to the spicy South, often finding dishes even he (as a local) hasn’t encountered before. While some of my friends are polarized by the flavor profiles, we remain firmly in the “loyal followers” camp.
🌍 The Atmosphere Shift: Local Secret or Tourist Hotspot?
On a recent weekend visit, I noticed a distinct change: the dining room was predominantly filled with international guests. It seems Thai Niyom has officially cemented its status on the global tourist radar!
Despite the shift in clientele, the “Thai Niyom effect” was as strong as ever. The atmosphere remains vibrant, and the business is booming with walk-ins. However, this is also the restaurant where my husband reverts to being a child in a candy store. Tempted by the vast menu of regional rarities, he predictably over-ordered, insisting we try new dishes we’d never had before.
The Result: A table full of food and a very necessary bag of leftovers to take home!
🍽️ The Food: An Adventurous Regional Spread

We decided to step out of our comfort zone this time, exploring a few “new-to-us” dishes. Our total bill came to 1,141.60 Baht, which is excellent value for a Michelin-rated meal of this caliber.
| Dish | Description | Price |
| Grilled Pork & Veggie Rolls | A beautiful, deconstructed Miang Kham served with tender, smoky grilled pork neck. | 265 Baht |
| Green Curry with Stewed Beef | A sharp departure from the norm. It features a pronounced, zesty basil punch that is much more intense than traditional mild recipes. | 320 Baht |
| Flat Bread Roti | The essential companion for dipping into that intense green curry sauce. | 35 Baht |
| Vegan Mala Noodles | Szechuan-style mala sauce with mushrooms. Surprisingly satisfying and packed with savory numbing spice. | 165 Baht |
| Deep Fried Curry Krills | A crispy, addictive classic appetizer that provides the perfect crunch. | 145 Baht |
📝 The Verdict: A Destination for Culinary Discovery
Thai Niyom remains a fantastic spot for two key reasons: consistent quality and culinary discovery. If you want a genuine journey through the vast landscape of authentic Thai regional cuisine—and you have a dining partner who isn’t afraid to order the whole menu—this is the place to be.
