Going Mexican At Sunrise Tacos

I have got the love bug of Mexican food from bf, whom has introduced me to Zambrero, my first Mexican joint in Bangkok.

Since then, I keep my eyes open for Mexican food joints, and have stumbled upon Sunrise Tacos at Silom Road. Walking into on a Friday evening, the restaurant was enjoying brisk business .. mainly foreigners. The restaurant was dimly lighted; not easy for food photographs. Staff were attentive, and I appreciate that they were friendly to both local (aka our table) and foreigner customers.

Salsa bar

I like their complimentary ‘salsa bar‘ .. there are 12 types of salsa, take as you like. We only managed to try some, such as the Sunrise Salsa (roasted bell peppers and onions), Tomatilla, Roasted Jalapeno, Chunky Tomato and Guacamole. Go for Roasted Jalapeno for that jalapeno heat ..

Horchata for him, and A&W for me
Horchata for him, and A&W for me

Bf ordered Horchata (79 baht++), a cinnamon rice milk, supposedly a family recipe from the Jalisco region of Mexico. I am not a fan of cinnamon; one sip is enough for me.

Nachos

Nachos (155 baht++), described as homemade tortilla chips with four cheeses, dotted with jalapeno peppers and pico de gallo (aka salsa fresca), was as cheesy as it should be.

Fresco Burrito

Fresco Burrito (285 baht++) was a good choice for sharing. It is a burrito filled with Kobe ground beef, Mexican rice, black beans, shredded lettuce, cheese and chunky tomato salsa. Their burritos are served with a choice of Mexican rice and beans, salad, or hot homemade tortilla chips. We choose Mexican rice and beans as side.

Not Your Typical Tourist

Travel opens up a whole new world, which is cliche but true. I am a strong advocate for independent and solo travel. I was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia but now live in Bangkok, Thailand, resulted from a chance encounter in 2009 with my why-are-you-Thai bf. I am now split between two countries. One country for my bf, another for the family, for the occasional weekend together.
