Hari Raya Food Distribution to Malaysians in Bangkok

Hats off to the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok for bringing Raya to homesick Malaysians – and the best way is non other than food! They used to host Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House, and I had the privilege of attending one in 2019. But public gathering is not allowed during this period of time, so it has evolved into Food Distribution ‘Raya Food’ program for two years in a row.

Call for registration started on 7 May. Malaysian citizens were invited to register for the ‘Raya Food’ program, and it’s on a first-come-first-serve basis. Me and some of my Malaysian friends registered for it, and we received an email on the 10th for “drive through” collection on the next day. And I asked my fellow Malaysians, “Will I be able to walk on my two feet for the ‘drive through’ collection”? And yes, can lah .. But if you drive, the guards walk to you and deliver the goodies – such a first-class service!

The ‘Raya Food’ set includes Lemang, Chicken Rendang, Raya Cookies (Semperit, Mazola & Pineapple Tart) and Spicy Fried Beans. The cookies spread includes Semperit (butter cookie), Mazola (peanut cookie) and pineapple tart.

Happy tummy with rendang and lemang. Thank you, terima kasih to the Malaysian Embassy for the effort to bring Raya to us.

Not Your Typical Tourist

Travel opens up a whole new world, which is cliche but true. I am a strong advocate for independent and solo travel. I was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia but now live in Bangkok, Thailand, resulted from a chance encounter in 2009 with my why-are-you-Thai bf. I am now split between two countries. One country for my bf, another for the family, for the occasional weekend together.
