Where To Buy Outdoor Adventure Gears In Bangkok
In need of hiking gears, it was a shopping weekend for bf and I.
I have always been under the impression that there is a lack of good outdoor adventure gear shops in Bangkok. I thought that it’s either the usual suspects (TANKstore, The North Face, Columbia, Supersports at major malls), or knockoff brands. So, it was an eye-opening shopping experience, checking out the local shops.
These local shops are perhaps well-known amongst Thai outdoor enthusiasts, but still under the radar for most foreigners, due to lack of English. They have a wide range of products – outdoor adventure and travel gear, camping, hiking, cycling, mountaineering and backpacking.
At JJ Mall, there are few shops, just walk around and you will see small shops scattered around the mall. I only managed to take down details of 2 shops here:

Decathlon
Thanks to SSB’s feedback … so adding on to the list is Decathlon, one of my all-time France sporting goods retailers. If you want taxi-free transportation, read more about it here. Otherwise, Rama IV is your next best bet as per SSB’s feedback.
Update Sept 2017:
KITCAMP International has been around for decades, I was told. I went to the shop recently, to discover that they only open from 1pm onwards. Two weeks later, I went back and below are photos of some of the products in the shop:
KITCAMP International

Phahonyohtin Road Samsen Nai Phaya Thai
Bangkok, 10400
Business hours: Mon-Sun 1pm-7.30pm

I was also there recently, and had read your post beforehand.
So can I add for other readers:
*Terminal 21 (Asok BTS) there is an Oakley shop with good range of Keen sandals (and a less extensive good range of shoes and boots)
*Decathlon stores (there are 6+ and not so easy to get to. Nearest to tourist Bangkok is a short taxi/ bike ride from Phrom Phong or Klong Toei. Ask to go to the Tesco Lotus Extra at Rama IV.
They stock a wide range of equipment for fishing, cycling, sports, hiking etc. The shoes, bags and clothing is mainly by Quechua. I was quite impressed.
Thank you, thank you 🙂
Decathlon, of course .. it’s one of my fav place too. I blogged about Decathlon after this post, shall add it to this blog post’s list. By the way, the one at Bangna can go taxi-free but it’s far from the city .. http://www.notyourtypicaltourist.com/thailand-2/decathlon-thailand/
Been at JJ mall today:
Gear Pro does not exist under S252. There is another shop under this address. Couldn’t find Gear Pro anywhere.
Trekking Corner not worth a visit at all if you are looking for outdoor clothing.
Hi Andi,
Double checked Gear Pro’s add, and it is S252 – unless if they move away. I guess depending on what you/others are looking .. some of those shops are small in size; do not have a variety of items. So, did you manage to find a shop that satisfies your requirements for outdoor clothing?
Hi there,
Just wondering where you got this information from? The shops in JJ Mall are all labelled with their individual numbers and I found S252. It is occupied by some sort of trade company or service provider but it is not a shop at all.
No, I did not find a suitable shop for outdoor clothing in BKK. Online reviews revealed that I am better off buying this in Europe: genuine products there, much larger selection and way cheaper than in Thailand.
In Udon Thani I went to Central Plaza and found at Robinson a pair of Noth Face zip off hiking trousers for Tbt 3750.- From what I have seen there you get better quality for a better price in Europe.
Hi Andi
I made sure I took photos of the shops at JJ Mall with their lot no/address for my blog ..
I have been buying my outdoor clothing from Decathlon, as I find the stuffs affordable and good quality (based on the price I pay).
