Lust for Ramen: An Unexpected Find in Bangkok’s Ari Neighborhood

I first came across the name Lust Ramen when I was searching for vegetarian ramen options, but I hadn’t realized it was the same place that’s always crowded whenever I walk past to my usual spot, Khao Soi Ong Tong in Ari neighbourhood. Intrigued by the constant buzz, I finally decided to step inside to find out what all the fuss was about.

Though we weren’t very hungry, we started with an order of their Shio Ramen with beef tongue/Gyutan Shio Ramen (219 baht) and an order of teriyaki chicken izakaya (75 baht for two pieces). We were delighted to discover that we could choose our noodle type—thin, thick, or flat. We opted for the flat noodle, as it’s an unusual find at a ramen restaurant, and it’s made without egg, which reminded me of my own pan mee dough recipe. It was a delicious and unexpected choice.

After a single taste of the shio broth and the perfectly cooked noodles, we were hooked. This is coming from me, someone who isn’t a fan of shio soup (unlike my husband), so the fact that I liked it speaks volumes. Seeing that the portion wasn’t overwhelming, we decided to order a second bowl: the Tomato Ramen with thick noodles (149 baht) and another izakaya order, this time with pork (75 baht). The Tomato Ramen was a unique flavor unlike any we’d had before, with a subtle hint of what tasted like curry powder in the broth.

A little research confirmed what we suspected: Lust Ramen is known for its good fusion ramen at an affordable price, a rarity in a space with many questionable food options. The menu is surprisingly flexible, allowing you to switch proteins from pork to beef, choose your noodle type, and add other toppings for an extra cost. They’ve also been around since 2019, with some of their specialty ramen, like the Hakata Tonkotsu, featuring soup imported directly from Japan. Beyond ramen, they also offer rice bowls, sashimi, and izakaya-style skewers.

Lust Ramen was a truly great find. It’s clear why the place is always crowded. We’ll definitely be back.
