What’s The Big Deal About Glico Ice Cream?
THE ice cream from Japan, the almighty Glico (I was told that it’s pronounced as Go-lico?) ice cream, is now available in Thailand. Their first international market, out of Japan, and the Thai people were reported to have gone gaga over it.
I, of course, wait until the hype died down, before setting out to try.
What’s the big deal? After trying all their four brands, the earth did not shatter, and I enjoyed two out of the four ice creams.
Altogether, there are 4 brands, ranked in order of my preference:
Panapp (25 baht)
3 layered ice cream in a cup, sundae-style with a combination of “Fruit sauce,” “Vanilla ice cream” and crisps of white chocolate, available in 2 variants: Vanilla & Strawberry and Vanilla & Grape.

I tried this the last, as it never crossed my mind that I might like it. And I do like it. Panapp is my favorite out of all 4 brands. The crisp white chocolate and strawberry sauce complete the whole sundae experience.
Seventeen Ice (20 baht)
Ice cream in a stick, available in 2 variants: Chocolate & Cookie and Chocolate & Mint.

I tried Chocolate & Cookie, and was pleasantly surprise that I actually enjoyed it. My third Glico ice cream, and after the first two so-so ice cream, helluva, finally something that I like.

Bf tried chocolate & mint – he didn’t enjoy it, neither do I.
Palitte (35 baht)
A combination of soft ice cream and crispy striped chocolate, available in 2 variants Vanilla & Dark Chocolate and Vanilla & White Chocolate.

Tried vanilla & dark chocolate – it was just alright.
Giant Cone (25 baht)
An ice cream cone topped with rich chocolate topping and nuts or cookie chunks, available in 2 variants: Chocolate & Nut and Chocolate & Cookie.

I tried chocolate & but, and it reminds me of a typical ice cream in a cone. Nothing special at all.
Where Can You Find It?
I thought that it’s only available at 7-Eleven, Family Mart, MaxValu … but saw it at Gourmet Market and Master Photo too.

If you would like to try, I found them at Gourmet Market, Siam Paragon (limited pieces), 7-Eleven at Siam Square Soi 2, Siamkit Siam Square and Sibunruang Building 1 (carry all 4 brands), Big C Extra between Lat Phrao Soi 7 and 9 (only Palitte is available), Master Photo Network, opposite CentralPlaza Ladprao (only Seventeen Ice is available) and MaxValu Erawan (carry all, except Giant Cone) and MaxValu United Center Building (only have Palitte and Panapp).
Looks like 7-Eleven in downtown area is your best bet. Can’t find Glico at neighborhood 7-Eleven shops.
If you would like to find out more about the products, here is Thai Glico’s website.
Given its imported, the price is very reasonable, regardless the taste 🙂 the land of smile always get the privilege
If not mistaken, these ice creams are made locally
