Two Pesos, An Unexpected Hot Pot Find
Malaysians love our soupy steamboat, even though our weather is hot and humid throughout the year. A request for a steamboat meal, had me combing the net, for my dearest ‘ fake’ mommy’s birthday meal.
Reviews of Two Pesos, a Taiwan mini hot pot restaurant, fall into two camps: either people love it or hate it. The sting of falling into the traps of reviews is still fresh in my mind … but even birthday girl’s friend says it’s good. OK, set then.
I was a bit worry about long, long queue mentioned in blogs. But, I assumed that the hype has toned down, since this place has been opened since Aug 2014. NOT.

The restaurant is opened from 6pm for dinner, and we arrived around 6.15pm, to a FULL HOUSE! We were second in the waiting list, yet, we had to wait for 45 minutes for a table. And this my friends, happened on a Friday night. I dare not imagine the crowd during weekend. It is safe to assume that each table will take around 1 hour, to finish their meal. So, be there as early as possible.

While waiting outside the restaurant, we were given a menu, for us to pre-order our food. The Manager spoke to us in Mandarin … so I had to use my rusty-broken Mandarin. I thought the place is run efficiently, and staff was helpful, so that’s a plus.

Certain things are on self-service basis .. getting utensils, condiment (spring onion, fried shallot) sauce (chilli sauce, garlic mash, bean paste, sacha) and refilling Chicken soup for the Two Pesos BBQ Pot.
Korean Army Pot (RM 24.90 + 6% GST) for ‘fake’ mommy

Birthday girl enjoyed her Korean Army Pot, a spicy Korean hot pot. Too big a portion with instant noodle and yee mee (egg noodle) in the set. She needed help finishing her pot of goodies. I said, “not the traditional steamboat that you had in mind, huh?”
Two Pesos BBQ Pot (RM 20.50 + 6% GST)

“Half bbq, half soup, yeah I want this,” Jo, said. She got the best of both world: bbq and steamboat.
Mongolian Herbs Pot (RM 16.50 + 6% GST)

Anything herby, that’s for me … Described as “Double boiled for hours and hours, with fully natural ingredients, it is beneficial for health, rich and refreshing!” But, I still prefer my traditional Chinese herby soup. I thought that 3 pieces meat portion is kinda sad.
Total: RM 73.90 for 3 pax
Overall, we had an enjoyable meal, and were not left thirsty after our meal. But, I will not queue for it, unles if another birthday girl or boy, requests for this place specifically.

People were still queuing long after we finished our meal, when we walked pass the shop to collect our car around 9.30pm! The good thing about the queue system is that diners will not feel the pressure of people hovering over them.
