A date with Queen of Bee

I am back in KL after spending a month in Bangkok. Since it was just a short time away, I don’t have my usual local food cravings.

Had a last-minute lunch date with Queen of Bee today. I took this opportunity to introduce some of my favourite food joints at Damansara Uptown (also known as Damansara Utama): Fat Spoon and Swich Cafe.

Fat Spoon

Fat Spoon serves “grandma’s recipes with a playful twist.”

Sometimes I jokingly call Fat Spoon as “Sudu Gemuk” (word-for-word translated to BM) or “Fei Chi Gang” in Chinese.

I used to rave about this place, but I find that the quality has dropped on my last two visits. Perhaps because grandma has a new favourite grandchild, the new Mei by Fat Spoon at Sri Hartamas.

Forgot that parking is still horrendous on Saturday (Sunday is so much better), but I’ve got a parking spot right in front of Fat Spoon. Free parking somemore. Folks, Sat is free ya. Free parking on weekends and public holiday at MBPJ designated parking bays.

Queen Bee and I shared the Hot Lemongrass and Pandan Tea (RM 9.00 per pot), which Queen Bee commented that the one we had at Mei tastes sweeter.

The Perut Ikan Rice (RM 17.00), literally means ‘Fish Stomach Rice’, a nyonya stew is one of my favourite. But they no longer serve the mackerel fish like they used to (a whole fish). Same price but smaller piece … not cool at all!

Queen Bee had Tamarind Prawn Angel Hair Pasta (RM 18.00). She said it tastes ok lah.

Total damage: RM 44.00 for two pax.

Swich Cafe

I adore Swich Cafe’s cake menu, and was ecstatic when I heard they opened their second outlet at Damansara Uptown recently. Definitely more convenient for me, and it’s also within the vicinity of my other favourite food joints. It’s only half a shop-lot, so hopefully they can survive. Have vague memory of their Damansara branch, but I thought the interior decor here is nicer.

The best “try” of the day goes to my cuppa of Nutella Latte (RM 13.00) .. Nutella-hazelnut rimmed latte ala salt-rimmed Margharita soo good that I started to get a sore throat from Nutella overdose. This reminds me of my obsession few years back with +Wondermilk’s Creme Brulee Latte. 

We had a slice each of Cempedak Cake with Toasted Coconut (RM 12.00) and Cendol Cheesecake with Gula Melaka Caramel (RM 12.90). Cempedak cake is aroylicious, but the cendol cheesecake failed to impress. The cendol taste is ovepowered by gula melaka caramel.

Cempedak is similar to jackfruit (nangka in BM), but of smaller size and nice smell and flavouricious flavour.

There is also “mix and match” option which we did not try.

I personally will come back to try their hot food menu, which I assumed it’s a new menu vs. Damansara’s outlet. As we did not see any kitchen facility, I presumed these are frozen foods to be heated before serving.
