Mom’s CNY Pun Choy Feast

Mom designed her own pun choy (盆菜) feast for her loved ones this year. There were 14 ingredients altogether, and these ingredients were selected because so and so like this and that, she said.

Mom hard at work

She started reading pun choy recipe in newspaper few days before the BIG day, and I also played some recipe videos.

The pun choy was so well-loved by all, that we finished it in no time.

The hero in its full glory

The pun choy includes abalone, prawn, siu yok, steamed chicken, dried oyster, dried scallop, dried oyster, mushroom, sea cucumber, fish maw, brocolli, cauliflower, dried sea moss and razor clam.

Bf said aroy, so I gotta learn this recipe

A vegetarian dish

She also cooked two other dishes and her ngoy sum soup, but the pun choy was definitely the hero of the night.

Good job, mom!

Sin Choy Wah’s yee sang

Lo ahhh…

Of course, we had our customary lo sang, thanks 2nd sis for the yee sang treat!

Not Your Typical Tourist

A passionate advocate for independent and solo travel, I traded life in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for the vibrant streets of Bangkok, Thailand. This shift is all thanks to a "chance encounter" in 2009 that led to marriage with my Thai husband. I currently split my time between Bangkok (my main base) and Kuala Lumpur for family—documenting the unique blend of a Malaysian life lived abroad.
