3 Birthday Cakes For A Cake Snob

Getting a birthday cake for me can be tricky. Bf once confessed that it is a daunting task, getting that birthday cake for me, the picky-birthday-cake girl. Yeah, I do have reputations of being a cake snob. In my defense, nothing but the best (cake) for my loved ones.

What to get for someone like that? Hey … it’s really easy, once you really know me. Cheesecake. NYCC New York Cheesecake specifically. (Almost) every year, (almost) every birthday, and he can’t go wrong. But NOT this year. The one and only NYCC New York Cheesecake at Crystal Design Center (CDC) is already closed down, and even their Facebook Page is no longer active. Why, oh why.

1st birthday cake: Harrods
1st birthday cake: Harrods Japanese Soft Cheesecake

This year, he went with Harrods’s Japanese Soft Cheesecake. Not exactly the best cheesecake in town. But, the fact that he made the efforts in driving to CDC to get me my all-time favorite NYCC New York Cheesecake, is more than enough to make the substitute a good one. As it is a Japanese soft cheesecake, it’s akin to Miki Ojisan No Mise or Uncle Tetsu.

2nd birthday cake: LeTAO Potiron Double
2nd birthday cake: LeTAO Potiron Double

And then we got another cheesecake, the Potiron Double from LeTAO. More like “I choose, he pay” kinda thing. The Potiron Double is a seasonal item to mark Autumn season, made of special pumpkin and chestnut flavor. A melt-in-your-mouth kinda treat, yummy till the last bite, worth all the 890 baht paid.

“Starting to bake your cake now,” the first message sent to me …

And so on and so forth with the cake batter and base. I was salivating seeing the step-by-step photos.

So, 3 cheesecakes for 1 birthday, not exactly the best-est in taste, but definitely the best-est in heart. And that makes this year a helluva great year and received seal of approval from the self-proclaimed cake snob.

Not Your Typical Tourist

Travel opens up a whole new world, which is cliche but true. I am a strong advocate for independent and solo travel. I was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia but now live in Bangkok, Thailand, resulted from a chance encounter in 2009 with my why-are-you-Thai bf. I am now split between two countries. One country for my bf, another for the family, for the occasional weekend together.
