103-year old legacy mooncake from Setapak Teochew Restaurant
You know you have succeded as a team lead, when you’re still being sought after you part your way with your team.
In my two years in Bangkok, I have been blessed with many visitors. I especially cherished the trips made by my ex-team mates.
Aaron. Bryan. Joe. Ke Shin. Sharon. Shawn.
There were some misses, because it clashed with my travel schedule. I wasn’t in town when I-Ying and Jillian were here.
Vivian is now in town. Her first break after she enters motherhood.
Vivian is very observant and also a thoughtful person, and she knows my food taste very well. She even figured out that I prefer Teochew mooncake, than the traditional type!
She was really, really busy, before her trip. Yet, that didn’t stop her from going through the trouble, to get me mooncake in conjunction with Mid-Autumn Festival. Not just any mooncake, mind you, but the famous Teochew mooncakes from Setapak Teochew Restaurant. She mentioned that she used an online delivery service for the first time, as she didn’t have the time to run to the shop herself. Poor girl was drowning with works, fending for herself.
I was really touched.
I miss her, miss them a lot, more than they will ever know.

She bought three different types: preserved vegetable paste, preserved vegetable with green bean paste and pure green bean paste.

So far, I had the preserved vegetable paste mooncake and pure green bean paste mooncake, and it was good. It was damn good, because Vivian went through the trouble, all the way from KL to Bangkok.

What she didn’t know, was I wanted to try the Teochew mooncakes from Setapak Teochew restaurant two years back. In fact, I had already forgotten about it. So, I was really surprised that she bought the one thing that I wanted to try, but never got around to do it.
This restaurant has a long legacy: opened in 1912. How many hundred+ year old restaurant in the country? Do try it out whilst it’s still in operation.
As for me, I’ll always think of Viv when I come across anything-Setapak Teochew restaurant, or even teochew mooncake itself.
