Chanthaburi, We Are Back!
Chanthaburi’s calm and tranquility brought us back, merely two months after our maiden trip here. Noticing previously that supply is greater than demand in the hotel industry, we didn’t even bother to book our accommodation in advance.
Accommodation

At Krungkrabaen Bay, we drove straight to a stretch of lodgings off the main road that we saw previously. These places are located in the same row as Sea Farming Demonstration Unit in Krungkrabaen Bay area.

Krabaen Bay Resort (อ่าวกระเบน-รีสอร์ท) is located directly next to Sea Farming Demonstration Unit. The resort was empty when we walk in, so bf made a phone call and someone quickly walked out (from somewhere) and attended to us.

We were shown the best-est room at the resort, and we agreed to stay one night at 1,000 baht per night including a simple porridge breakfast.

Woohooo .. we literally owned the whole resort, as there were no other guests on that night! We were offered Room No 14, their best room located closest to the bay. Rooms close to bay are only for 4 pax: double bed rooms are farther from bay.

As this room fits 4 pax, they removed the additional pillows and towels. But we still enjoyed the two double beds.

Bathroom is rather spacious, so it’s a plus. But, the shower is only getting lukewarm water and no toilet paper was provided. We moved tissue paper box from bedroom to bathroom.

At a mere 1,000 baht, we woke up to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore, and a “private” picnic table. What a relaxing night. We had picnic in front of the bay, with some snacks brought at the nearby Chao Lao market. This is perhaps the best 1,000 baht we have ever spent.

I enjoyed catching Pokemon on the water at Krabaen Bay Resort *chuckle*

The next day, we moved to The Pier Resort (เดอะเพียร์รีสอร์ท), which was fully booked the night before. We managed to secure the last available room at 1,200 baht per night, including breakfast. There are altogether 11 rooms, and it comes in double and family room. There is a boat house too, and it fits 6 pax.

Just like Krabaen Bay Resort, we only got luke warm shower water. But it was perfectly fine as water wasn’t too cold.

There are water activities, and a restaurant just next door. I didn’t use the swimming pool, as water seems not clean. People were seen fishing at The Pier, so it’s a perfect stay if you are into fishing.

To Pokemon Go players, there are sooooo ….. many Pokemon to catch at The Pier. I jokingly told bf that these Pokemons are bored to death, with not many players at Chanthaburi .. “catch us, and bring us back to Bangkok,” they plead. Not many Pokestop at Krungkrabaen Bay area, so do come loaded with Poke Ball.

Meal
The food in Chanthaburi is really so much better, compared to Hua Hin. That’s all we did this trip: eat, eat and eat.
Je Pen Yentafo (ร้าน เจ๊เพ็ญเย็นตาโฟ)
Chanthanimit, Mueang Chanthaburi District, Chanthaburi
Tel: 085 823 8019

We had our first meal at this popular restaurant, the one that we didn’t try on our last trip.

The bowl was filled with ingredients! Well, it better be, 100 baht per bowl is not cheap.

This marks my third pink noodle, after my first two yen ta fo here. After this third try, I can safely declare that this is not my type of noodle. I didn’t fancy the pink bean curd broth much.

Fried tofu at 30 baht is also a popular order at this restaurant.
Total: 260 baht for a meal of two pax
Puja Seafood Restaurant (ปูจ๋า ท่าแฉลบ)
1 Moo 10, Tha Chalaep Road, Bang Kacha Subdistrict, Chanthaburi, Thailand
Tel: 039 391005

First night’s dinner was at Puja Seafood, and it was a yummylicious meal.

Gai Tom Kravan (Boiled Chicken soup with Cardamom) .. a soup described by bf as a tom yum x tom kha gai . It was mentioned in a website that “kravan” or cardamom is one of the spices found in Chanthaburi.

Puja .. not sure how to described this dish, it’s a minced pork and crab cake with plum sauce dipping.

“Chuchee” (ฉู่ฉี่) pad pla kra pong … dish of the day for me. I really, really like this “chuchee” gravy. Googling for it, it was simply described as red curry gravy in English. But, it doesn’t do justice to the dish.

Even a simple vege dish tastes good here.

And I caught my Pikachu here … so it’s my Pikachu Restaurant!
Total: 540 baht for a meal of two pax
Kuey Teow Tha Mai (ก๋วยเตี๋ยวท่าใหม่)

We were looking for ‘moo liang’ within the same vicinity, and the moo liang restaurant was closed. Thank goodness for that, as we then stumbled upon Kuey Teow Tha Mai.

They have two stalls altogether, operating under the same owner. Both serve awesome-mosem food!

The egg noodle, dry version was really good. So good that bf ordered a second bowl, after his first soup noodle.
Total: 210 baht for 2 pax

I was stuffed from durian binge, so didn’t eat a lot for dinner.

Staff recommended crab fried with lime. As I was still stuffed, bf ordered seabass fried with lime instead.

Squid fried with shrimp paste, this is really, really goooood.

Vege was so-so.
Total: 490 baht for 2 pax

This market is worth a visit for that local tidbits.
