Tokyo Secret Hanjyuku Cheese Tart Is Now In Malaysia
I am a huge fan of the Japanese-style cheese tart from BAKE, so I am really excited with the two options available in town now: Tokyo Secret Hanjyuku (means half-baked) Cheese Tart and Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tart. Recipe-wise, probably not exactly the same … but better than nothing, I guess.
For the uninitiated, BAKE is famous for its Twice-baked tart pastry + Tenderly soft cheese mouse made with three different types of cheese from Japan and France, and it can be eaten in 4 ways. Read more about it here.
Wanting to get something for Mommy Cupcake, to thank her for her awesome-mosem bachangs, I decided upon the baked cheese tart. I like to give gift that’s fitting to the recipient, and I was told by her daughter that she likes cheese. Perfecto!
Tokyo Secret is located at IPC, at Mutiara Damansara. It is closer to home, than Hokkaido in Subang and Shah Alam. Btw, Tokyo Secret is not from Japan, but originated from Hong Kong. They have just opened their door 1-2 weeks ago … fresh from the oven, no pun intended. There were news about long queues during opening weekend, and they also limit the number of pieces to 2 pieces per customer. So, I called ahead and was reassured that there is no such restriction in place now.
Walking in on a Wednesday afternoon, in fact, there were only few customers. Maybe it was also because of Ramadhan month?
But my, the way the staff work and handle the tarts .. you would have thought these folks are handling precious gems! There were 2 staff running the counter: one on the cashier and one as tart-packer. They only attend to one customer at a time … they will not attend the next customer, until the first customer receives his/her purchase. The packer wouldn’t even start, until she receives instruction from the cashier!
I asked staff about ways to enjoy the tarts, besides room temperature and cold. I checked whether the tarts can be warmed up on oven, which they had no idea. So, it’s not exactly the same way like BAKE. BAKE has 4 ways: room temperature, cold, iced and oven hot.
RM 7.90 (approx 70 baht) per piece, it’s slightly cheaper than BAKE’s price in Bangkok @ 80 baht per piece. If not mistaken, the tart is selling at HKD 22 in Hong Kong’s Tokyo Secret .. approximately RM 11. We have it cheap here.
Hope Mommy Cupcake enjoyed the cheese tarts, bought with much thoughts and loves.
