Minum Kopi Dan Makan Roti Kat Syarikat Kopi LOKL

LOKL (pronounced as local) Coffee Co is smacked right in the middle of Jalan Tun H.S. Lee, not exactly the most convenient location. I dined at LOKL few years ago, and have never been back since then. I found no reason to travel all the way just for the food here.

Queen Bee suggested breakfast at LOKL, after KL Car Free Morning (KLCFM) event. Sure, why not? Just a short walking distance away, 750 meters / 5 minutes from Menara OCBC, after returning our bicycles.

Nothing beats great company and good food, and also good coffee … these compensate for some (petty?) issues I had at this cafe. Nothing major; I was just nitpicking as they have boldly put up following promises.

LOKL Promise ..
LOKL Promise ..

LOKL promise that:

  1. Your food arrives no later than 20 minutes : failed
  2. Your waiter looks you in the eye and smiles : failed
  3. Your food should always taste the same : no comment

Food did NOT arrive no later than 20 minutes

Our group of 8, were seated in two 4-seat tables, next to each other. We placed 2 orders of their Putumayam Toastie, one order from each table.

Not long after that, we were informed that only 1 portion is available. One of us quickly changed our order.

10 minutes later, we were informed again that they are OUT of the dish altogether. Why was this not informed at the same time? Why is Serving Staff clueless about available portion?

I had to change my order 10 minutes after I placed my order. By the time my food arrives, it was already passed the 20-minute mark.

Waiter did NOT look us in the eye and smiles

…. in fact, I think they even gossiped about us, right in front of our faces.

Please bear with me on this … I take client’s satisfactions seriously in my professional career. One of my biggest pet peeves is substandard customer service, especially in the hospitality industry.

Like I mentioned earlier, we were in a group of 8, and were seated in two 4-seat tables, next to each other. To speed things up a bit, we requested for our orders to be placed separately. At that time, 1 staff has already started taking order. So we asked another staff whether can we place our orders separately?

This second staff walked over to the other staff, whispered something in his ear, and had a little giggle together. And then walked back to take our orders. It’s rude, for goodness sake. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, whatever they taked about might be totally irrelevant, but hey, who knows? If they were my staff ….

Like I said, nothing too damaging, but service needs to buck up. Mind you, the food is not cheap. Food-wise, it’s Instagram-worthy, but nothing too outstanding for me to make a return trip.

Thanks Queen Bee for the brekkie treat ❤️ !

Not Your Typical Tourist

Travel opens up a whole new world, which is cliche but true. I am a strong advocate for independent and solo travel. I was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia but now live in Bangkok, Thailand, resulted from a chance encounter in 2009 with my why-are-you-Thai bf. I am now split between two countries. One country for my bf, another for the family, for the occasional weekend together.

You are welcome. The next cafe that I wanted to go is Merchant’s Lane.
